Is It Legal To Change The Game.exe Icon?

I came across a question a few weeks ago about the legality of using such software as Resource Hacker to change the Game.exe icon, so I thought I’d answer it. First of all, according to the EULA: Licensee shall not reverse engineer, de-compile, or disassemble the Software. which means, in short, that technically it IS illegal, since you’re modifying something that is part of the "Software", i.e. RPG Maker. With that said, however, you’re not actually directly modifying the software itself, only the game’s icon for creating shortcuts. And, since there isn’t an apparent option for the INI to use an icon, for some developers having a game-exclusive icon is…

RPG Maker VX/Ace in Ubuntu

A while a go I tested RMVX on Ubuntu and, while it did run it wasn’t without its problems. Things seem to have progressed since then thanks to several updates to Ubuntu itself and Wine/Wine Tricks. Apparently, it’s now possible to install RMVXA onto Ubuntu (11.10/12.04+ LTS) with very few hitches. Full details on the entire installation process can be viewed on the RPG Maker Web Forum. Playtesting, which was a major issue with RMVX when I tested it, doesn’t seem to…

Sprite Icon Tutorial for RPG Maker

Here’s a simple tutorial for creating custom RPG Maker icons and sprite sheets in GIMP (Photoshop should work as well since they have similar functions). I’ve been using GIMP for years and this tutorial taught me a few things as well. This doesn’t go into too much detail on how to create quality icons, but it does give you an idea and provides the easiest way to do so.

RPG Maker Times Blog v6

RPG Maker Times Blog

Welcome to the RPG Maker Times blogsite. Version 6 has been moved to Dreamhost. This web host is highly recommended! It’s fast, secure and affordable! Anyway, the blog has a new, more dynamic layout. It was redesigned to reflect the changes to the blog itself. I’m updating the style sheets slowly so that I can focus more on content. Many pages have been (or are being) merged, deleted or revamped accordingly. While I don’t have the time to update earlier posts, new updates will still be posted, of course. These include upcoming games (notably for RMMV), projects or plugins of note. From February 13, 2014, the original Blogger RPG Maker…

Continuing the Chest Tutorials, we’re now going to create a trapped chest, i.e. when you open it, it will trigger a random trap, which will cause damage or affect the player’s status.
