I have a pet troll now.
He’s very loyal and determined. Sadly, he’s not house-trained. He doesn’t know how to follow instructions or to do things on his own, especially the more complex tasks.
He likes to follow at my heels, nipping my ankles, and often lashes out merely in frustration and rage. Occasionally, he’ll lunge hit-and-run style, just to let me know he’s around.
Most of the time, however, he just lurks in the shadows, waiting and watching. When I least expect it, he’ll dart out unexpectedly and bite hard, and then he’ll skulk back into the shadows again.
If I feed him, his voraciousness grows; if I ignore him, he grows bored but becomes more vicious. Sometimes, he needs putting in his place, but usually subtly.
I know he’s there and when he’ll surface again. His behavioral pattern is quite regular and distinct.
In a way, I feel sorry for my pet troll. It’s the only life he knows, after all, hiding within the anonymity of his shadows so I never really see him.
